Live birds of prey returning to Lambton Heritage Museum for PA Day

The Lambton Heritage Museum is hosting an interactive “Hoo Are You?” event featuring live birds from Wild Ontario to educate local families on the vital role of raptors in our ecosystem.

Lambton Heritage Museum is inviting the Sarnia-Lambton community to a close encounter with nature during a special PA Day event on Friday, April 24. The program, titled "Hoo Are You? Birds of Prey," will feature live birds presented by Wild Ontario from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

This marks the third visit for Wild Ontario, a science education program based at the University of Guelph. Since 2010, the organization has provided a new purpose for non-releasable birds, using them to inspire connections to the natural world.

“It’s wonderful to welcome Wild Ontario back to the Museum,” said Colleen Inglis, Educational Program Coordinator with Lambton Heritage Museum. “Their Birds of Prey program was a huge hit with families last time, and we’re thrilled to offer this educational experience again.”

The event focuses on approachable science and native species, centring the conversation on the environmental health of Ontario. Visitors will have the chance to interact directly with handlers to understand the specific behaviours of these raptors.

Educational highlights of the drop-in event include:

  • Getting up close with live birds of prey that cannot be released into the wild.
  • Learning about the essential roles these predators play within local ecosystems.
  • Interacting with expert handlers to discuss bird biology and conservation.
  • Connecting local environmental stewardship with broader scientific education.

By bringing these creatures to Grand Bend, the museum provides a human voice and face to local conservation efforts. Inglis noted the importance of understanding the birds' behaviors and their ecological impact.

Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and students, and $3 for children. Children aged three and under are admitted free of charge. Tickets can be purchased at the museum's website.
