Sarnia’s Forestry Department is set to plant 182 trees this spring, including 122 along city boulevards, as part of its ongoing urban forest strategy.

Sarnia’s annual tree planting program is underway, with crews preparing to add 182 new trees across the city.
According to a recent city report, 122 of those trees will be planted along boulevards, while the remaining trees will be placed in parks and open spaces throughout Sarnia.
The initiative is part of the city’s continued investment in both streetscapes and greenspaces, with a focus on strengthening the long-term sustainability of Sarnia’s urban forest.
In addition to boulevard and park planting, work will continue this spring on the Berger Road re-naturalization project. The final phase of that project will include the planting of 760 native shrubs and 27 native trees.
City officials say the re-naturalization work is aimed at enhancing the area as a natural space that supports residents, wildlife, and local biodiversity.
The broader planting program aligns with the City of Sarnia’s Urban Forest Management Plan, which focuses on increasing overall tree canopy coverage and improving canopy equity across neighbourhoods.
As part of that effort, planting continues to be prioritized in areas with lower existing tree coverage, with the goal of creating a more balanced and accessible urban canopy for residents across the city.
