Gerald Allan ‘Gerry’ Gibbs, 87, passed peacefully on April 5th, 2026 with his soulmate Molly by his side.

Born January 2, 1939, in Wells, British Columbia, a town known for its precious minerals, Gerry would grow to be a precious man. After serving in the Canadian Army on peacekeeping missions in Lebanon and Egypt, his journey brought him to Sarnia, Ontario, where he managed Dixon Van Lines and where, it turned out, his future best friend and companion worked right next door. He met Molly, who came with daughters Angela and Alison, and Gerry soon found himself in a family where even the cat was a female. Not surprisingly, his garage became his sanctuary, a place of tools and mechanical treasures where classic cars and RVs came back to life. What he treasured most, however, was time with his family. Every Easter he created scavenger hunts, and taught the girls to play baseball, to drive a stick shift, and the proper way to wash a car. He loved family adventures like camping, whitewater rafting and hot air ballooning, but got just as much joy from a great practical joke.

After retirement, he and Molly became known as the Happy Wanderers, setting out each winter in their RV to explore the National Parks of North America. Eventually they settled the Golden Falcon into Chimney Park in southern Texas, where Gerry earned fame for his tricked-out Mardi Gras bike and his gold medal in shuffleboard at the park's annual Olympics. In short, Gerry was always up for anything. Whether it was avant-garde art shows, Toronto Pride marches, murder mystery dinners, Hawaiian garden parties, or jumping out of airplanes, Gerry’s response was always “Sure. Why not?”. He was also a charming host who served up a killer Martini to the couple’s lively social circle.

Gerry is survived by his beloved wife Molly, his adoring daughters Angela and Alison and yet another female member of the family, his cherished daughter-in-law Robin. He also leaves behind siblings Michael and Dorothy, sister-in-law Lindsay, and many nieces, nephews and friends far and wide.

Celebration of life to follow late summer. Donations can be made to Parkinson Society Southwestern Ontario.
