Your remarks in recent days with respect to indigenous art and first nations peoples, are not just disappointing, they are deeply irresponsible and fundamentally out of step with the role you have been entrusted to hold.

To publicly dismiss and undermine frameworks like UNDRIP, and to direct disrespect toward Indigenous leadership, is not leadership. It is a failure to understand the historical, legal, and moral responsibilities that come with your position.

The Chippewas of Kettle & Stony Point First Nation, along with Indigenous communities across this country, are not asking for permission to exist, to lead, or to be respected. Those rights are inherent. They are recognized not only through international frameworks like UNDRIP, but through the lived realities, histories, and sovereignty of First Nations people.

Your comments do not exist in a vacuum. They contribute to division, they erode trust, and they reinforce a narrative that municipalities can disregard Indigenous voices when it is convenient. That is not governance. That is regression.

Respect is not optional in public office. Accountability is not optional. Understanding the relationships between municipalities and First Nations is not optional.

The leadership shown by Chief Kimberly Bressette and the Chippewas of Kettle & Stony Point First Nation stands in stark contrast to your remarks. Their work is grounded in collaboration, environmental stewardship, and community. Yours, in this instance, reflects dismissal and a concerning lack of awareness.

I stand fully in support of the Chippewas of Kettle & Stony Point First Nation and Indigenous communities across this region and beyond. Their call for accountability is justified, necessary, and long overdue.

This moment requires correction, and meaningful action, not defensiveness.

I will work tirelessly to ensure the people of Sarnia-Lambton know all about who you really truly are, a disgusting racist person, who does not deserve to hold seat on council, let alone as a potential mayor.

Do better.

Sincerely,

Shaun4Community
