Local students grow L&L Lawncare from door-to-door roots to community staple

Two Sarnia students are proving the power of local reinvestment as they expand L&L Lawncare from a door-to-door startup into a year-round property maintenance service for the community.

Luca Andali and Luke Laevens have turned a teenage venture into a lesson in local economic resilience. What began as two students knocking on doors in Sarnia has evolved into L&L Lawncare, a property maintenance business built on reinvestment and a commitment to their hometown.

The pair, now 17 and 18, previously received a government small business grant for students. Rather than viewing the funds as a temporary paycheck, they funneled the capital back into the operation to expand their service offerings. This spring, they are scaling up again with the addition of a zero-turn mower and enhanced landscaping expertise.

Even as they transition into higher education – one studying engineering at university and the other preparing for a business and entrepreneurship degree this fall -the duo maintains a consistent presence in Sarnia-Lambton. They returned home during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and reading weeks to provide snow removal and property care for their loyal customer base.

"Starting L&L Lawncare has been an amazing journey so far," the pair said in a joint statement. "Each summer we get to grow the business, meet new people in the community, and keep improving and building the service we provide. Running L&L Lawncare has taught us a lot about hard work, customer service, and building something from the ground up. We’re excited to get back out on the lawns and eager to continue building our business".

As the spring season approaches, Andali and Laevens represent a narrative of local independence that resists the trend of faceless, corporate property management. By prioritizing community roots over easy expansion elsewhere, they have anchored their entrepreneurial growth directly in the soil of Sarnia-Lambton.
