Special Olympics Sarnia is seeking local sponsors for its new cornhole league, helping bring inclusive sport opportunities to Sarnia.

A new recreational league aimed at creating inclusive opportunities for athletes with disabilities is set to launch in Sarnia this spring.
Special Olympics Sarnia has announced the creation of the “Sarnia Sliders” Cornhole League, a program designed to bring athletes together through a sport that is both accessible and social.
Organizers say the league will officially begin May 13, but community support is needed in the coming weeks to help get it off the ground.
To launch the program, Special Olympics Sarnia is seeking local business sponsors to fund the purchase of cornhole boards. Each set of boards can be sponsored for $350, with eight sets needed in total.
Businesses that sponsor a set will have their logo displayed directly on the boards throughout the season, offering visibility during league play and related events.
The initiative is being positioned as both a community-building effort and a way for local businesses to support inclusive sport.
Cornhole, a lawn game that involves tossing bean bags toward a raised platform with a hole, is known for its simplicity and adaptability, making it well-suited for athletes of varying abilities.
Organizers say the goal is to create a welcoming environment where participants can build confidence, develop skills, and form friendships through sport.
The sponsorship campaign is time-sensitive. Logos and payment must be submitted by March 27 to ensure inclusion on the boards before they are ordered at the end of the month.
Funds raised will go toward establishing and sustaining the league, as well as supporting accessible recreational programming for Special Olympics athletes in the Sarnia area.
Community members and businesses interested in sponsoring a set or learning more about the initiative are encouraged to connect with Special Olympics Sarnia in the coming weeks.
With the league set to debut in May, organizers hope the community will rally behind the effort to help local athletes “slide into” a new sport.
