Urban gardening returns to Germain Park with 2026 plot bookings

Germain Garden Plots in Sarnia are now open for booking, offering residents a chance to grow their own food from May through October.

Residents looking to grow their own food, connect with the community and spend more time outdoors can now reserve their space at Germain Park, as bookings officially open for the 2026 Germain Garden Plots season.

The City of Sarnia is offering 35 rentable garden plots this year, giving residents the opportunity to lease a 20-by-20-foot section of land for personal gardening from May 1 to October 31, weather permitting.

The program is designed to support a range of benefits tied to local gardening, including reducing environmental impact, promoting food production, improving physical and mental well-being, and strengthening community connections.

Each plot is prepared by City staff before and after the season, with soil tilled and disced to ensure it is ready for planting. Gardeners will also receive a supply of compost to help support healthy growth throughout the season.

Plots are available on a first-come, first-served basis, with payment required at the time of booking. Rental contracts are issued upon confirmation and outline the conditions of use, along with standard liability waivers.

City officials say the program continues to offer residents a simple and accessible way to take part in urban gardening while making use of shared green space in Germain Park.

Those interested can complete the full booking process online through the City’s digital portal.
