The Sarnia-Lambton community tradition marks two decades of unconventional fundraising for local charities like the Inn of the Good Shepherd and Literacy Lambton.

Sarnia’s favourite "not-a-running race" is hitting a major milestone this year. The 20th Anniversary Race to Erase is scheduled for Saturday, May 30, 2026, marking two decades of a unique fundraising model that keeps every dollar within the Sarnia-Lambton region.
Unlike traditional athletic fundraisers, this event focuses on "savvy and smarts" rather than physical speed. Participants visit various locations across the community to complete challenges that test creativity and problem-solving. This approach allows residents to discover local businesses and non-profits while supporting a cause of their choice.
The event maintains a strictly local focus, requiring no entry fee. Instead, each team commits to a fundraising goal of at least $500. Every cent raised goes directly to a local organization selected by the participants.
This year, racers can choose to support a diverse list of community pillars:
Since its inception, Race to Erase has raised nearly $1 million for the local area. This funding has supported over 30 different organizations that provide essential social services, education, and health support throughout Sarnia-Lambton.
“Reaching the 20-year milestone is incredibly meaningful. Over the years, we’ve worked with many passionate individuals, dedicated organizations, and generous businesses. We’ve all worked together with the common goal of giving back,” says Rich Bouchard, co-founder of Race to Erase.
Organizers are now calling on friends, families, and coworkers to form teams for the 2026 anniversary. Registration is currently open at sarnia2026.racetoerase.com.
