A local farming family is receiving an outpouring of community support after a devastating barn fire caused an estimated $350,000 in damage and resulted in the loss of livestock.

Ysebaert Acres, a first-generation Scottish Highland cattle ranch operating on a third-generation family farm, was established in 2018 by Laurel and Andy Ysebaert. Known for their focus on cattle genetics, rotational grazing, and environmentally responsible farming practices, the family has built both a local reputation and a global online following centred on humane animal care and rural life.
The fire broke out early Saturday morning on Courtright Line in St. Clair Township. According to Fire Chief Richard Boyes, crews responded at approximately 5:44 a.m. and arrived to find the structure fully involved. About 30 firefighters attended the scene and operated defensively to prevent the blaze from spreading to nearby buildings. The barn was declared a total loss. One calf and several chickens were lost in the fire. No injuries were reported among emergency responders. Lambton OPP and EMS also attended.
In the days following the fire, the community response has been swift and significant. A GoFundMe campaign launched to support the Ysebaert family has raised more than $206,000 from over 3,700 donors so far, with funds intended to assist with cleanup, rebuilding costs, and replacing supplies.
The situation has resonated widely within online farming communities, where thousands of people have shared messages of support. Laurel Ysebaert has built a large social media audience by sharing daily life on the ranch, including the care of their distinctive Scottish Highland cattle. Her platforms reach approximately 829,000 followers on Instagram and 553,000 on TikTok, where she documents ranching life, animal care, and the realities of farming with an authentic, journal-style approach.
Supporters say the campaign reflects both the family’s impact online and their deep roots in the local farming community.
Friends who organized the fundraiser described the loss as both emotionally and financially devastating, noting the family’s dedication to their animals and land. Donations will go directly toward rebuilding the barn and helping the farm recover.
Ysebaert Acres has emphasized compassionate animal care as a core value, with animals raised in low-stress conditions, given names, and treated with attention and respect throughout their lives.
The cause of the fire has not yet been released.
