The downtown core of Corunna is set for a creative transformation, and the Kiwanis Club of Corunna-St. Clair wants local students to lead the way. The recently established service club has officially launched a design contest for a new mural to be installed at the front of the Corunna Library.

The contest is open to both elementary and secondary school-aged children. Under the theme "Welcome to Corunna!", the project aims to revitalize the downtown aesthetic while creating a more inviting and vibrant space for young readers and families visiting the library branches.

The initiative highlights a shift toward community-led public art, moving away from faceless institutional decorating and instead centering the voices of the youth who live there. By inviting students to submit their ideas, the club is fostering a sense of ownership and belonging among the next generation of residents.

While the vision is set, the project still requires community support to reach the finish line. The club was recently awarded a $5,000 grant from the Lambton County Creative County Grant program. This funding covers half of the projected costs, leaving the Kiwanis Club to raise the remaining balance through local efforts.

To bridge the funding gap, the club is hosting its first major fundraiser: a Trivia Night at the St. Clair Parkway Golf Club. The event is scheduled for February 27 at 7 p.m. and is open to the public. Organizers are framing the night as an opportunity for residents to gather in support of a project that directly benefits local youth infrastructure.

Key details for the fundraising event include:

Registration is $60 for a team of four. The night will feature a prize for the winning team and a 50/50 draw. All proceeds from the evening will go directly toward the mural construction.

The Kiwanis Club of Corunna-St. Clair officially formed in September 2025 with a specific mandate to support children and families in the area. This mural represents one of their first major contributions to the local landscape, emphasizing that independent, community-rooted organizations are often the most effective at driving local cultural growth.

Residents interested in staying up to date on the contest or upcoming fundraisers can follow the club's progress online. The organization shares all updates and event information on their Facebook and Instagram pages to encourage community engagement.
