Local fibre art and member works take centre stage at Lawrence House

The Lawrence House Centre for the Arts kicks off March with a dual exhibition opening featuring intricate fibre artistry and a diverse showcase of over 30 works from local guild members.

The Lawrence House Centre for the Arts is launching two new exhibitions this First Friday, March 6, with an evening of art and music. From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., visitors can explore the new displays while enjoying live piano performances by Doug Hacking.

The main floor features a specialized fibre exhibit titled "From Thought to Final Form". This collection highlights the technical skill and creative evolution of local artists Patti Cook, Sharon Fraser, Cheryl Laakes, Cynthia Lescene, Karen Pasqualucchi, and Carol Karttunen.

Attendees will have the opportunity to meet the fibre artists in person during a special presentation at 7 p.m. on Friday evening. This exhibit offers an intimate look at how raw materials are transformed into complex artistic expressions.

Upstairs in the Turret Gallery, a new Members Exhibit showcases the breadth of talent within the local arts community. The gallery features over 30 two-dimensional works spanning a variety of media, reflecting the diverse perspectives of Sarnia-Lambton creators.

Both exhibitions will remain open to the public until March 27. Regular gallery hours are Wednesday through Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Supporting local venues like the Lawrence House is vital for maintaining a flourishing community. These exhibitions provide a space for residents to connect with the artistic character of our region through high-quality, grassroots journalism and storytelling.
