Local Girl Guides from Sarnia and Wyoming gathered together to celebrate the 100th anniversary of World Thinking Day and a century of Guiding history in Lambton County.

On Febuary 21, over 120 local youth gathered to mark the 100th anniversary of World Thinking Day and a century of Girl Guides in Lambton County.
The celebration brought together Sparks, Embers, Guides, and Pathfinders from Sarnia and Wyoming units. Since 1926, World Thinking Day has been observed every February 22 to honour the birthdays of founders Lord and Olave Baden-Powell. The event connects local youth with a global movement spanning more than 150 countries.
This year’s theme of "Friendship" was brought to life through several hands-on projects. Participants created a rainbow and friendship garden, a friendship chain documenting kind acts, and beaded bracelets representing the World Trefoil symbol. These activities emphasize the organization's focus on building strong community bonds and character.
The milestone event also recognized 100 years of Girl Guides within Lambton County. After a community lunch of pizza and cake, the youth crafted commemorative keychains to mark the double anniversary. These mementos and the celebratory cake were made possible through the Lambton County Creative Grant program.
The centennial celebrations will continue later this spring with a look back at local roots. An open house and historical display are scheduled for the afternoon of April 25 at Our Lady of Mercy hall. This location holds significant historical weight as the home of the very first Girl Guide unit in Sarnia, established in 1926.
All past and present Guiders are invited to attend the April event to share stories and view the historical collection. This gathering serves as a bridge between generations of Sarnians who have participated in the movement over the last century.
