Theatre Sarnia opens the stage to newcomers with free workshops

Sarnia residents who have always wondered what it would be like to step onto a theatre stage are being invited to give it a try — without having to audition first.

Sarnia residents who have always wondered what it would be like to step onto a theatre stage are being invited to give it a try — without having to audition first.

Theatre Sarnia is offering a series of free workshops at the Imperial Theatre aimed particularly at newcomers, beginner performers and people looking to return to theatre after time away.

The next session, “Play On! An Acting Workshop for Beginners,” runs Wednesday, Aug. 12 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Organizers describe it as a low-pressure introduction to acting with no experience or audition required. Participants will have an opportunity to explore acting and build skills without the expectations of preparing for a performance.

Additional workshops continue throughout August and September, including musical-theatre movement sessions Aug. 17 and Aug. 30, acting-through-song workshops Sept. 12 and another beginner acting session Sept. 26.

All workshops are free and open to adults 18 and older. While anyone can apply, Theatre Sarnia says priority will be given to people who are new to the organization or are near the beginning of their theatrical journey.

The workshops are held at the Imperial Theatre, 168 Christina St. N.

Registration is required, with the signup form available through the Imperial Theatre website.
