Youth Junior Musical Theatre Program presents two February performances of the high-energy Disney production.

Theatre Sarnia’s Junior Musical Theatre Program is bringing Disney’s Newsies Jr. to the Imperial Theatre this February, offering local audiences a high-energy production inspired by the true story of young newsboys who stood up for fair treatment in turn-of-the-century New York City.
The junior musical will be performed at 7 p.m. on Feb. 5 and Feb. 6 at the Imperial Theatre in downtown Sarnia.
Newsies Jr. is a 60-minute adaptation of the 2012 Broadway musical, which was itself based on Disney’s 1992 film written by Bob Tzudiker and Noni White. The stage version features music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Jack Feldman.
The story follows Jack Kelly and a group of newsboys who organize a city-wide strike after powerful newspaper publishers raise distribution prices at the expense of the children selling the papers. As the newsies unite, they discover the strength of collective action and the impact of standing together to fight injustice.
The production includes well-known songs such as Carrying the Banner, Seize the Day, and Santa Fe, delivering a spirited and accessible introduction to musical theatre for young performers and audiences alike.
This Youth Junior Musical Theatre Program production is directed by Jackie Burns, with music direction by Mikayla Matos and choreography by Jaysea Cowen.
Disney’s Newsies Jr. is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International, New York, NY.
The production will take place at the Imperial Theatre, located at 168 Christina Street North in Sarnia. Tickets and additional details are available through the Imperial Theatre box office at 519-344-7469 or online.
