The Bluewater Trails committee has named the winners of its first seasonal photo contest as part of a broader effort to double trail usage in Sarnia.

The Bluewater Trails committee has announced the winners of its inaugural winter photo contest, a move designed to encourage Sarnians to engage more deeply with the city's extensive trail network. By highlighting the natural beauty of these corridors through local lenses, the committee hopes to double trail usage across the community.
The committee received an overwhelming number of entries, with residents braving the cold and snow to photograph various parts of the trail system. While the Howard Watson Trail remains a popular focal point, participants also submitted works from the Wawanosh/Sunoco trail and other smaller local paths.
The winners of the winter season are:
First Place ($250): Shelley Brown
Second Place ($150): Sharon Plunkett
Third Place ($100): Deryl Nethercott
People’s Choice Award ($300): Mark Zylstra
The contest serves as more than just a competition; it is an effort to provide citizens with a new perspective on the trails that connect Sarnia from north to south and east to west. By centering the voices and visions of local residents, the initiative fosters a sense of ownership over these public recreational spaces.
As the seasons change, the committee invites the public to continue documenting the city's landscape. The spring portion of the contest is currently underway, and the committee will accept photos with spring themes until June 21.
