I am writing to you today to express my profound disappointment—and frankly, my utter disgust—regarding your decision to abandon the Conservative Party and join the Liberal government under Prime Minister Mark Carney.
Since 2015, the people of Sarnia—Lambton—Bkejwanong have sent you to Ottawa with a clear mandate. We elected you as a Conservative because we believed in the principles of fiscal responsibility, individual liberty, and the specific platform you championed for over a decade. By defecting to the very party our community has consistently voted against, you have effectively disenfranchised every constituent who placed their trust in you at the ballot box.
In your statement today, you alluded to seeking "serious leadership" in the face of current geopolitical and economic pressures. If you truly believe that switching sides to bolster a government you once spent years criticizing is an act of "serious leadership," then you should have no qualms about testing that theory with the people who actually put you in office.
A representative's seat belongs to the constituents, not to the individual occupying it. If you are confident that your change of heart reflects the will of Sarnia—Lambton—Bkejwanong, I challenge you to do the honorable thing: resign your seat and trigger a by-election.
Give us the opportunity to decide if we want a Liberal representative. Anything less is a betrayal of the democratic process and a transparent attempt to maintain personal power at the expense of political integrity.
I look forward to your response and, more importantly, your resignation.
