Sir,
I am writing today in support of the Sarnia Journal and the courageous work of the Sarnia group advocating for Palestinian human rights. I appreciate the quality news that the Sarnia Journal offers and its representation of facts about the horrific events in Palestine.
I understand that your newspaper has been lobbied with many letters from "Honest Reporting Canada" (HRC). HRC promotes anti-Palestinian racism, spreads misinformation, and leads campaigns to harass journalists and media outlets in Canada. The Sarnia Journal should be commended, not criticized.
Please continue to acknowledge and print letters in support of Gaza and human rights. The plight of the Palestinians has been evident for many decades, but the truth has often been silenced or glossed over. The HRC calls letters in support of Palestinians anti-Semitic hate messages and has demanded the Journal take them down. This is reprehensible.
It is important that historical injustices be righted, and important to note that Palestinians have many Jewish advocates around the world. It is in no way anti-Semitic to criticize the horrific violence of the Israeli assault on Gaza and its civilians (not to mention the West Bank). Voices raised in support of peace and human rights for Palestinians are starting to be heard in mainstream media, finally, and the Journal has shown integrity by acknowledging people in the local community who are calling for an end to what the United Nations and many other respected institutions around the world have called a genocide perpetrated by Israel.
Please keep up your important work. Fairness and justice in the media are more essential than ever.
Thank you.
