First off, to the gentleman who submitted this letter, thank you for your service.
As a taxpayer, I find some of the thoughts in this letter concerning. Why should the tax money I pay go to fund other people buying a car or paying for charging infrastructure? This is a problematic narrative, tax dollars in the commercial realm. To be fair, I also don't support government tax breaks and funding for oil and gas projects either, so I am not trying to single out the electrification of transportation by itself.
If the public wants EV's, then the manufacturers will be able to sell them, why don't we let the market decide and leave the government out of this all together. I want the government to provide the services I need and that my taxes are supposed to pay for. I don't need government to tell me what kind of car I should drive or help to pay for a Tesla for someone who makes far more money than me.
Even if every Canadian bought an electric car, it is not going to change anything. There were 90+ private jets at Jeff Bezos's wedding, and Justin Trudeau had the carbon footprint of a small country while he was in office, so how about we address the waste in the top 5% of the food chain before we go after the bottom 95%. The Canadian Government is a bottomless pit of debt that even our children will never see the end of, and it is going to inhibit growth and prosperity for Canadians for decades. In my opinion, we need to stop the unnecessary government spending, along with nanny state decision-making and get back to basics.
