My first Letter to the Editor, sent on July 23rd, was about Sarnians for Palestine raising awareness, funds for Gaza.
I believe that we need to be aware of what is happening around us. We are a small but beautiful and safe community where people are peace-loving and caring. That is why the group has been successful in their weekly demonstrations since 2023.
That being said, we also need to care about international affairs as we do not live in a vacuum. We need to know that even today, this being the 21st century, various genocides are still taking place outside of our country. The one that I will again mention today is Gaza, and the people who are being put through the atrocities are also peace loving civilians, the Gazans, Palestinians in the West-Bank and Jerusalem.
In Gaza, as I said in the previous Letter, the people are being denied food, water, electricity, medicine, and other needs. For almost 5 months, no aid truck has been allowed to enter the area by Israel. We need to look at the images of the suffering and dying people. The men, women, children, and even animals are being constantly killed, first by firings and bombing, and now additionally by a man-made famine.
Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, run by the USA and Israel, where mercenaries are placed to make the civilians enter animal penn like structures, and then shoot and kill the starving people who come there simply to collect food for their starving families. More than 1000 people have been killed that way. Creating a special day just for the Gazan women to collect aid from the same place and then humiliate and shoot at them and make them turn around empty handed?
The ceasefire negotiations failed yet again. People who are still trapped there will keep going through famine and death by the hands of Israel. They will keep getting killed and we will keep watching it! how can that be fair or even humanly possible in this century?
Ashraf Hussain is in constant contact with the group. Yesterday, he wrote:
"These are very difficult times and more difficult days that we are constantly going through, with starvation, bombing and death. The famine has reached the fifth stage." "We eat one meal throughout the day, and one meal is not enough. Every day I go for aid, or what is called aid. I walk long distances of more than 7 kilometers and more, I wait under the scorching sun while I am lying on the ground, fearing the heavy gunfire above our heads and the shells that are around us. Sometimes you get something or you may not get anything."
Ashraf Hussain is not the only story, every person left alive, has a similar story to tell.
