David Chisholm suggests closing a section of Mitton Street to traffic to create a pedestrian-friendly destination with cafes and greenery.

I believe the City and General Public can have a strong voice in turning Mitton Street past problems into a success story. I would suggest that Mitton be closed from Wellington to Davis and a Pedestrian Mall created. New restaurants in the main core are doing better than ever before and I think the establishment of new restaurants with sidewalk cafes, wider sidewalks and greenery could be the salvation for Mitton Street.
I believe for example if the construction of such a project was timed to open in the early Spring by the Fall these new establishments and the General Public could establish Mitton Street as a "Go To," destination.
I know there will be "Critics and Nay Sayers," but really the investment by the City would be minimal and if entrepreneurs moved quickly I'm confident that purchase or lease of property could be done at affordable costs.
Just a thought for us to ponder.
