I read Robynne Hay's story about the horrific physical and psychological damage to Jason Gibson's body as a result of a work accident in May, 2024 while working at Nova Chemicals in Corunna. As mentioned in the article, he' was contracted to work through his employer, Kel-Gor, for jobs in industries within Lambton County.

As anyone who has ever been unfortunate to sustain work related injuries anywhere in Ontario, WSIB gets involved as does OHIP. It's a two sided coin. On the one side, it's protection for the worker to ensure the person receives whatever care is needed to rehabilitate him/her as much as physically possible so that the person can resume the original work or at least be capable of earning a living with some accommodations.

On the other side of the coin, WSIB involvement removes all possibility of fair and just compensation from a company that is responsible for the injuries. The fact that Nova Chemicals were fined proves that point.

Providing ongoing psychological counselling and mental health assistance which is very much needed is difficult to quantify. Pain and suffering is difficult to quantify.

However, Mr. Gibson has financial responsibilities towards his family, particularly his youngest son. Has he received compensation from WSIB to assist with these responsibilities?

Just the fact he can no longer fully participate in activities with his family as past experiences have shown, leaves him saddened and his family deprived of his company. Heartbreaking & Unfair! I will keep Jason Gibson in my prayers.
