A local resident issues a poignant call to action for Sarnia-Lambton’s political leaders to address systemic injustices and global crises from a community level.

Dear editor,
I write this, not knowing it will be published or read, but here I am.
I am a very concerned citizen, teacher, mother, wife, daughter and woman.
These are sad and troubling times. I see in the news what is happening in the States and in Gaza, and I feel so powerless. I want to help. I cannot just sit by and do nothing. What will I tell my children later when this is all over? That I did nothing against the rise of Facism, in the presence of a genocide, in a world where money and profits matter more than human life and dignity? Or will I be able to tell them I stood up for what’s right? That I fought this crushing system, this dehumanizing and soul crushing system, the facism, the genocide.
So I ask myself this question, what can I do to help? I need our leaders to help; Marilyn Gladu, Bob Bailey, Mike Bradley, every member of the city council. What can we do?
As Canadians, we are a capable country with the strongest and kindest people I know. We need to stand up as a community and help however we can. We need a leader to be our guiding light to show us the way.
Let’s fight for a better future.
Signed, a concerned citizen.
Sonia I.
