Afghan war monument to be dedicated Sunday

A ceremony dedicating a new military monument in Veteran’s Park will be held Sunday, Oct. 30 to honour the men and women of the Canadian Armed Forces and the 159 who died in the Afghanistan conflict.

A ceremony dedicating a new military monument in Veteran’s Park will be held Sunday, Oct. 30 to honour the men and women of the Canadian Armed Forces and the 159 who died in the Afghanistan conflict.

The monument is a Light Armoured Vehicle, or LAV III, that’s been installed behind the Sarnia Library.

The monument features three brass plaques, including one in memory of two local men killed in action, Private William Cushley and Cpl. Brent Poland.

The dedication ceremony takes place at 12:45 p.m. preceded by a short parade of veterans and first responders led by members of the 1st Hussars Regiment and Royal Canadian Legion.
