A winter weather travel advisory is till in effect for Sarnia and Lambton County Tuesday afternoon.

Environment Canada says snow will continue through the afternoon, with locally heavy snowfall with total accumulations of 5 to 10 cm, and peak snowfall rates of 1 to 2 cm per hour.

“Precipitation has mainly changed over to snow with some areas still seeing snow mix with ice pellets,” the weather advisory stated. “Snow and ice pellets will continue to impact travel this afternoon before weakening or changing to freezing drizzle or drizzle later this afternoon or this evening.”

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery.

Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas.

School buses in all zones for the Lambton Kent and St. Clair Catholic District School Boards were cancelled Tuesday due to the widespread icy road conditions and forecast.
