Sarnia Police say a suspect has been arrested in connection to an August shooting on Napier Street that sent one man to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The suspect, an 18-year-old male from Sarnia, was arrested by Canada Border Services on Feb. 26, while crossing into Canada at the Huntington border crossing in British Columbia, police said in a news release.
“The Sarnia Police Service travelled to British Columbia [and] returned him to Sarnia on March 1st.”
He was held for a bail hearing and remanded into custody until March 4 on the following charges:
“Investigation revealed the victim had fled for his life from a residence on Napier Street, after being shot at with a 9mm handgun,” police noted. “He had been shot once in the neck, once in the chest, and in the back of one arm. The victim suffered permanent damage to his arm and throat.”
The service’s criminal investigations division launched an investigation into the incident, utilizing both the forensic unit and the Center of Forensic Sciences.
As a result of this investigation, the Sarnia Police Service formed grounds to charge the suspect in this shooting. Information received was that he had left the Sarnia area and a Canada Wide Warrant was subsequently obtained for his arrest.
