Residents interested in supporting local wildlife will have an opportunity to learn how everyday choices can help protect bird populations during an upcoming information session at the Wyoming Library.

The event, titled “Creating Bird Friendly Environments,” will take place Thursday, March 12 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. as part of the library’s Learning for Life series.
The session will feature a speaker from Bird Friendly Sarnia, a local initiative focused on encouraging safer habitats for birds across the region. The presentation will introduce the concept of bird-friendly certification and outline practical steps individuals and organizations can take to reduce risks for birds in urban and suburban settings.
Bird Friendly Sarnia works to raise awareness about the challenges birds face in developed areas, where issues such as window collisions, habitat loss, outdoor cats and light pollution can significantly affect both local and migratory species.
During the session, attendees will learn how community planning and everyday decisions — including landscaping choices and building design — can influence bird safety. The presentation will also highlight achievable actions that homeowners, businesses and municipalities can take to make their spaces more welcoming to birds.
Organizers say the goal is to demonstrate how small changes can contribute to healthier environments for birds and help communities better support biodiversity.
The event is open to the public and will take place at the Wyoming Library branch.
