Three people were charged with impaired driving over the weekend, including a 21-year-old Sarnia resident found allegedly falling asleep behind the wheel at a late night drive-thru.

Sarnia Police say employees at the London Road restaurant called around 2 a.m. Saturday to report a driver who appeared to be under the influence, and falling asleep in their vehicle.

The driver was arrested, and subsequent tests showed was more than twice the legal limit. Charges include one count of operation while impaired by alcohol, and one count of having a blood-alcohol concentration of 80-plus.

A 62-year-old Sarnia man was also found to be more than twice the legal limit after an officer spotted a vehicle speeding on Indian Road around 2:20 a.m. Friday. Police followed the driver “and observed further evidence related to how the vehicle was driven improperly,” a news release noted. The driver was stopped, arrested, and faces charges of operation while impaired by alcohol, and having a blood alcohol concentration of 80-plus.

On Sunday, police were contacted by a concerned citizen reporting a possible impaired driver traveling westbound on Wellington, ‘all over the roadway,’ police noted. The vehicle was stopped on Devine Street, where the driver, a 27-year-old man, was arrested. A breath sample showed a blood alcohol level four times the legal limit, and he now faces one count of operation while impaired by alcohol and one count for having a blood alcohol concentration of 80 plus.
