Drivers heading into Canada via the eastbound span of the Blue Water Bridge will see a $1 toll increase beginning December 1, raising the rate from $4 to $5 (USD) per trip.

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT), which operates the U.S. side of the international crossing, says the change will help offset rising maintenance and operations costs, as well as ongoing construction improvements to the bridge plaza.

This increase marks the second phase of a planned, staggered adjustment that began in 2024, when the first $1 increase took effect. MDOT officials said the agency consulted the public and regular commuters through a survey process before finalizing the decision.

According to MDOT, public feedback supported the need for the rate adjustments, given that tolls had not changed for 14 years prior to last year’s increase. The agency emphasized that revenue from tolls goes directly toward bridge maintenance, operations, and capital projects necessary to sustain one of the busiest Canada–U.S. border crossings in the region.

The new rates will apply to all eastbound vehicles beginning December 1. Westbound rates, for those entering the United States, remain unchanged.
