Children entering school for the first time can learn about riding the bus safely at a special orientation day on Saturday, Aug. 16.
Chatham-Kent Lambton Administrative School Services (CLASS) and local school bus operators are hosting the free event for students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 1 in the Lambton Kent District School Board and St. Clair Catholic District School Board.
The “First Time Rider” program will run from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at two locations: Great Lakes Secondary School in Sarnia and Ursuline College in Chatham. Sessions begin every half hour starting at 9 a.m. and last about 30 minutes.
Children and parents will watch a short animated safety video before boarding a bus for a short ride. Safety trainers will also cover basic bus rules, safe street crossing, and emergency evacuation procedures.
Sarnia-Lambton location: Great Lakes Secondary School, 340 Murphy Rd., Sarnia
Chatham-Kent location: Ursuline College, 85 Grand Ave. W., Chatham
