Sarnia has decided to share a donation received in compensation for rescuing 1,500 U.S. citizen in last month’s botched Port Huron float down.
A Marysville, Michigan man named Joe Wiedenbeck launched a GoFundMe account as a way to thank the city and help it recoup its rescue costs. Donors contributed more than $5,000.
But council agreed instead to split the gift last week between the Canadian Red Cross and U.S. Salvation Army, noting the two countries have cross-border reciprocal agreements in place that benefit both sides.
