Residents near Devine and Christina streets were instructed to close windows and stay indoors after a mechanical excavator struck a natural gas line last week.

The ‘shelter-in-place’ was issued after work crew accidentally cut the two-inch line while digging up the roadway for a sewer separation project on April 3.

City police rerouted traffic while firefighters went door-to-door and Union Gas officials closed off and repaired the damaged pipe.
