Harbour dredging underway

A $3-million dredging project of Sarnia Harbour is now underway. The city-owned facility can no longer accept a fully-loaded ship even with the current high water levels, forcing it to turn down requests for berthage.

The city-owned facility can no longer accept a fully-loaded ship even with the current high water levels, forcing it to turn down requests for berthage.

About 30,000 cubic metres of sediment is being removed from the Government Dock and the North Slip, seen here on a foggy morning last week.

When complete, the Harbour is expected to have a working depth of 8.4 metres of water.
