Kiwanis Golden K and Kiwanis Foundation of Canada bring $4,500 to BGC Sarnia-Lambton’s summer camp

A local service club’s volunteer-driven fundraising effort has turned bingo nights into a summer lifeline for children across Sarnia-Lambton.

The Kiwanis Club of Sarnia-Lambton Golden K has delivered a combined $4,500 to BGC Sarnia-Lambton in support of its Summer Day Camp program, continuing a partnership that has quietly made a real difference for local children and youth.

The funding arrived in two parts. In April 2026, the Golden K donated $4,000 raised through its volunteer work with the Jackpot Time Sarnia Bingo program, operated through the Ontario Charitable Gaming Association. Under that program, a portion of proceeds from the facility are directed to charities and non-profits whose volunteers staff the operation. Then, on May 19, an additional $500 grant was presented to BGC Program Coordinator Hailey Schopf after the Golden K successfully applied for a Kiwanis Foundation of Canada Organized Youth Program Grant on BGC's behalf.

The Summer Day Camp serves children and youth between the ages of 4 and 12.

Jaylene Henry, Executive Director of BGC Sarnia-Lambton, said the support goes directly to what children experience day to day.

"Through funds raised by volunteering with the Jackpot Time Sarnia Bingo program, and with the additional support of the Kiwanis Foundation of Canada Organized Youth Program Grant, these contributions directly support our Summer Day Camp program for children ages 4 to 12," Henry said. "These funds help provide camp supplies, nutritious snacks, creative programming, and memorable field trip experiences that many children may not otherwise have the opportunity to enjoy."

Henry described the relationship with the Golden K as one built over years of sustained commitment.

"We are incredibly grateful for the continued generosity and partnership of the Kiwanis Club of Sarnia-Lambton Golden K. Their long-time support of BGC Sarnia-Lambton continues to make a meaningful difference in the lives of local children and youth," she said. "Partnerships like this help ensure every child has access to a safe, supportive, and enriching summer experience."

The grant presentation was attended by Schopf and Tony Wheeler of the Golden K.

BGC Sarnia-Lambton operates under the motto "Opportunity Changes Everything." More information about the organization is available at bgcsarnialambton.ca. Details about the Kiwanis Foundation of Canada grant program can be found at kfcdn.org.
