The Kiwanis Club of Sarnia-Lambton Golden K, part of a global organization dedicated to improving communities "one child and one community at a time", has announced its speaker program for November 2025. The public is welcome to attend their hybrid meetings, which take place every Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at the Lochiel Kiwanis Community Centre or virtually via Zoom.

The November schedule focuses on themes of local history, military service, and environmental conservation:

  • November 4: Indigenous Military Experiences

    • Shawn Osborne, a Haudenosaunee Mohawk veteran from Six Nations Grand River Territory, will share his experiences as an Indigenous person serving in the Canadian Armed Forces, the RCMP, and local police forces. Osborne is the former Chief Training Officer for Sarnia Police Services and holds the Exemplary Service medal with a 30-year bar.

  • November 11: Honouring Remembrance Day

    • In an effort to honour those who served, three club members – Allan McKeown, Mike Shimmin, and Dave Marshall – will share wartime experiences related to their own family members.

  • November 18: Courtright's Amazing Magician

    • Local storytellers Brad Gray and Brendan Wiley will "Bring History to Life" by detailing the story of Courtright's own Stewart James. James (born 1908) gained an international reputation as a prolific inventor and performer of magic tricks, entertaining troops during World War II.

  • November 25: Long Point Turtle Tunnel

    • Jan and John Everett will present "Never Give Up," which describes the conservation efforts to protect the threatened turtle population at Long Point Provincial Park, a World Biosphere Preserve on Lake Erie. They will specifically discuss the construction of a tunnel under the Causeway Road to allow turtles to cross safely.

Meetings are held in the Kiwanis Room at the Lochiel Kiwanis Community Centre, 180 College Av. N., starting at 9:30 a.m., with the Zoom link opening at 9:00 a.m.. Attendees experiencing new symptoms of illness, such as a sore throat or cough, are asked not to attend in person.
