The Honourable Malcolm Cameron Chapter of the Imperial Order Daughters of the Empire (IODE) marked the national organization's 125th anniversary by donating 125 pairs of socks to the Inn of the Good Shepherd's annual Socktober Campaign.
The Imperial Order Daughters of the Empire (IODE) is a national women's charitable organization founded in 1900 and is dedicated to supporting communities through education, community service, and citizenship programs. The organization is currently celebrating its 125th year of service to Canadians. The IODE Honourable Malcolm Cameron Chapter is one of the active local chapters serving the Sarnia-Lambton area. In addition to their contribution to the Inn of the Good Shepherd, the chapter has collected over 125 books for Literacy Lambton's Christmas hampers and signed over 125 Christmas cards for armed forces members serving overseas to mark the anniversary.
The donation was made to the Inn of the Good Shepherd, a key service organization in Sarnia that runs the annual "Socktober" campaign. The campaign aims to collect socks, one of the most needed items for people experiencing homelessness. Socks are essential for health, as having dry, clean socks is critical for foot care for those in shelter or experiencing homelessness. Socktober drives, which are often held by local community groups and schools, typically collect thousands of pairs of socks to be distributed throughout the winter.
This donation highlights the continued local focus and community engagement that is central to the mission of both the IODE and the Sarnia-Lambton organizations they support.
