The Oil Museum of Canada is inviting the public to explore the skies at a free stargazing event on Saturday, July 26, in partnership with the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada – Sarnia Centre.
Running from 8:30 p.m. to midnight, the event will take place on the museum grounds in Oil Springs, with stargazing expected to begin around 9:30 p.m., following the sunset.
Members of the RASC-Sarnia Centre will be on site with telescopes and binoculars, offering guidance and projecting live astrophotography images onto portable screens. Visitors can also learn how to capture night-sky images through live demonstrations.
The Oil Museum itself will remain open throughout the evening, giving guests a chance to explore local history before turning their attention to the stars.
Lawn chairs and blankets are recommended for comfort, and attendees are advised to bring bug spray, long sleeves, and pants to protect against mosquitoes. Personal telescopes, binoculars, or astrophotography gear are also welcome.
No registration is required. The event is weather-dependent and may be cancelled in the event of poor viewing conditions. For updates, visit the Oil Museum of Canada’s website.
