Parents reminded to report child immunizations to avoid school suspension

Lambton Public Health says Feb. 3 is the deadline to submit records or exemptions.

Lambton Public Health is reminding parents and guardians that they are responsible for reporting their child’s immunization records directly to public health, as schools and health care providers do not submit these records on a family’s behalf.

Immunizations can be reported online through Immunize Connect Ontario (ICON) by uploading a photo of the vaccination record, or by mailing or dropping off a copy at Lambton Public Health, 160 Exmouth Street, Point Edward.

Parents can also use the ICON system to view, save, or print their child’s immunization record once information has been reviewed and accepted by public health staff. COVID-19 vaccines are recorded separately through the provincial COVax system.

Under Ontario law, children attending licensed child care or school from Kindergarten to Grade 12 must have proof of vaccination or a valid medical or non-medical exemption on file. Unvaccinated children may be excluded from school or child care during an outbreak or when there is an immediate risk.

Parents who received a notice that their child’s immunizations or exemptions have not been reported must submit the required information by Feb. 3. Children who do not meet the deadline may receive a suspension order.
