Sarnia Police continue to crack down on impaired driving, including a number of charges laid over the weekend.
Police say a 53-year-old Sarnia man was arrested and charged on Friday, Sept. 23 after a vehicle struck a parked car on Davis Street around 11:20 p.m., causing significant damage and prompting a witness to call 911. Subsequent breath tests showed the man’s blood-alcohol level exceeded the legal limit.
On Saturday, witness spotted a vehicle swerving in the westbound lanes of Highway 402 around 6:15 a.m., police say. The vehicle exited the Highway at Christina Street where the erratic driving continued, nearly hitting an oncoming vehicle. Police say the driver, a 38-year-old Sarnia woman, was determined to be under the influence of a drug, and taken into custody. She faces one count of impaired by drugs.
A third incident took place Monday when an officer stopped a vehicle after it was observed cutting across lanes of traffic along Vidal Street. Police say it was discovered the driver had no current license, and was wanted on an outstanding warrant related to ‘impaired operation of a canveyance.’ Subsequent tests showed the driver was over the legal limit, and faces charges.
