More wet weather is in the forecast for Sarnia-Lambton, Tuesday.
The region is under a rainfall warning as heavy rainfall from showers and thunderstorms is expected throughout the day, Environment Canada stated, warning of locally heavy rainfall in excess of 50 mm with isolated amounts approaching 75 mm.
The alert has prompted a water safety bulletin from the St. Clair Region Conservation Authority (SCRCA).
“Ground conditions are likely to be very reactive due to the heavy rains the region received in mid-July,” the SCRCA stated. “Due to the potential intensity of the storms, water levels are expected to rise rapidly and produce localized runoff.”
High amounts of rainfall in a short period of time can lead to pooling on roads and flash flooding, officials added.
Individuals are reminded to avoid watercourses and flooded areas due to dangerous conditions, slippery banks, and cold, swift-moving water. Children and pets should be kept away from the water.
