A demonstration in Sarnia to protest the federal government’s anti-terrorism legislation is planned for Saturday, April 18.
The 10:15 a.m. rally at city hall is part of a wider series of rallies, marches and forums being held across the country that day.
It will be the second large demonstration in Sarnia against Bill C-51, which would give police broader powers to detain terror suspects and grant new powers to Canada’s spy agency.
On March 14, more than 100 people gathered in front of MP Pat Davidson’s office to protest the bill, saying it could be used to silence dissent and government critics.
In response to criticism, the government proposed a handful of amendments. A third and final vote on C-51 could occur shortly after Parliament resumes on April 20.
