A free September event at the Brooke-Alvinston Arena will bring together local organizations to help residents plan ahead for later-life needs.

The Sarnia Community Foundation (SCF) and the Municipality of Brooke-Alvinston are teaming up to host "Planning Ahead: Later Life Matters," an inaugural event aimed at helping individuals and families navigate later-life planning.
The free event runs from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 16 in the auditorium at the Brooke-Alvinston Arena.
Presentations are scheduled from a number of local organizations, including Home Instead, CommonWealth Financial, St. Joseph's Hospice Petrolia, Dennings Funeral Homes, the County of Lambton Library, Great Lakes Law, the Sarnia Community Foundation and the Municipality of Brooke-Alvinston. Each group will speak about its role, along with what residents need to know about planning for and supporting later-life needs. Attendees will have the chance to ask questions and speak with the organizations following the presentations.
Mike Barron, executive director of the SCF, said the event is meant to strengthen ties between local services and the people who need them.
"This is a great community connection, bringing local businesses geared toward later-life matters to help those in the community," Barron said. "Some residents are living alone, and this connection will help them get out, connect and learn about the services and support that are available."
Coffee and light snacks will be provided. Residents planning to attend are asked to contact Janet Denkers, clerk-administrator for the Municipality of Brooke-Alvinston, at 519-898-2173 or [email protected].
