Sarnia driver charged after 401 traffic stop

A 28-year-old Sarnia driver faces numerous charges after police stopped a vehicle on Highway 401 in Thames Centre, Saturday.

Middlesex OPP say a suspicious vehicle travelling westbound was stopped around 2:30 a.m.

“An individual was placed under arrest and transported to the Middlesex County OPP detachment where tests from a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) were administered,” police said, adding that the accused was found to be in possession of drugs and a prohibited weapon.

As a result, a 28-year-old from Sarnia, has been charged under the Criminal Code, Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and the Highway Traffic Act with:

·      Operation while impaired – drugs
·      Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition
·      Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Opioid (other than heroin)
·      Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Methamphetamine
·      Drive motor vehicle – no licence

The accused has been released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice to speak to the charges on January 19, 2024.
