Private fireworks displays held to celebrate Diwali will be permitted in the City of Sarnia on Nov. 12, the city’s fire chief announced this week.
Bryan Van Gaver has declared Diwali (Nov. 12, 2023) as a ‘Special Occasion Day’ under City of Sarnia By-Law Number 68 of 2022 (“Fireworks By-Law”), according to a news release.
Diwali is the Indian “festival of lights”—a holiday celebrating light over darkness, and the triumph of good over evil.
“In accordance with the Fireworks By-Law, firework sales are permitted on the Special Occasion Day and seven days preceding it,” Sarnia Fire Rescue Services noted. “Private displays of consumer (recreation) fireworks are permitted on private property from dusk to 11 p.m. on the Special Occasion Day, as well as one day prior and one day following.”
Prohibited Fireworks under the Fireworks By-Law are not permitted at any time.
