Calling police out of spite proved costly for a 28-year-old city man. A Sarnia police officer responded to Confederation Street on Oct. 28 for a cyclist who had reportedly been struck by a car backing out a driveway.

A Sarnia police officer responded to Confederation Street on Oct. 28 for a cyclist who had reportedly been struck by a car backing out a driveway.
While on route the officer was flagged down by the cyclist, who was now driving a car and pulled a U-turn to speak to the officer. The cyclist-turned-driver smelled strongly of alcohol and was ordered to undergo a roadside breath test.
The complainant was taken into custody and charge with impaired driving following a breathalyzer sample that was allegedly almost twice the legal limit.
The officer later determined there hadn’t been a collision. Instead, the cyclist thought the backing-out driver had come too close to the sidewalk before stopping. He began yelling at the driver and called police.
