Toddler Tales helps toddlers build early literacy skills in Lambton

Lambton County Library is helping the community’s youngest learners get ready to read.

Lambton County Library is helping the community’s youngest learners get ready to read with its Toddler Tales program, a 30-minute session designed for children aged 18 to 36 months and their caregivers.

The interactive program introduces toddlers to early literacy through stories, songs, and play. Caregivers and children participate together, learning simple activities they can continue at home to support language and literacy development.

Each session focuses on four key practices — reading, talking, singing, and playing — that help prepare children for reading. These activities teach toddlers that print has meaning, that words are made up of smaller sounds, and that stories follow familiar patterns.

Toddler Tales is one of several early literacy programs offered at Lambton County Library locations for preschoolers aged 0 to 5. Other programs include 1000 Books Before Kindergarten, Baby Rhyme Time for infants up to 18 months, and Family Storytime for children aged two-and-a-half to five years.

Together, these programs aim to spark curiosity, encourage early learning, and help families build a lifelong love of reading.
