A town hall meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, October 1, to gather resident feedback on a proposal to consolidate the Sombra and Port Lambton library branches. The meeting will take place at 6:00 p.m. at the Port Lambton Community Hall.
The proposal, developed by Lambton County Library, follows a 2023 Joint Library Facilities Review that assessed the condition and suitability of its 25 branch libraries. The goal is to enhance library services in southern St. Clair Township by merging the two branches into a single, expanded location in Sombra. This consolidation could lead to enhanced programming and resources, ensuring that library services continue to meet the community's needs.
Darlene Coke, Manager of Library Services, stated that adapting to modern demands is a priority. "Libraries everywhere are transforming to better serve their communities," she said. "While changes are required to provide a facility that can offer users a modern library experience now and for decades into the future, we want to hear from area residents about how changes may impact them so that both St. Clair Township and Lambton County Councils can make informed decisions…"
The meeting, facilitated by a third-party, Bryan Boyle, is open to all community members including regular library users, occasional visitors, and non-users. It will provide an opportunity for residents to learn about the proposed changes and share their perspectives directly with St. Clair Township and Lambton County Councils.
Light refreshments will be served at the event. While pre-registration is not required, residents can choose to pre-register by visiting lclibrary.ca/town-hall.
