Two men were arrested in Sarnia Monday following a pair of robberies that police say were unrelated.

Sarnia Police say the first incident occurred around 5 a.m., on Monday Oct. 30, when a suspect entered a convenience store in the 400 block of Exmouth Street, and attempted to leave with several unpaid items.

“When the clerk told the suspect that he had to pay for the items, the suspect threatened to assault the clerk and did so while displaying that a knife was attached to his belt,” a news release noted. “The suspect ran from the store and was arrested a few blocks away, minutes after the robbery happened.”

The suspect, a 35-year-old Sarnia man, faces charges of robbery; uttering threats to cause death; possession off a weapon for a dangerous purpose (x2); carrying a concealed weapon; and breach of probation.

The second incident occurred around 9 p.m. when a suspect entered a convenience store in the 100 block of Indian Road South.

“The suspect walked to the counter area, held out a knife and ordered the clerk to move out of the way,” police stated. “The suspect then pushed the clerk out of the way and stole several items from behind the counter.

“The suspect fled the area of the store and was later identified and arrested on the morning of the 31st of October, 2023.”

A 40-year-old Sarnia man faces charges of robbery; assault with a weapon; possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose; possession of property obtained by crime; and possession of a prohibited device.

Both robbery suspects were held for a bail hearing.

“The Sarnia Police Service responds to incidents such as these robberies with utmost priority and will use all necessary and available resources,” the news release added.
