The number of local COVID-19 cases continues to decline as vaccination rates go up.
Lambton Public Health reported five active cases in Sarnia-Lambton today with just one new case and one person in hospital.
That compares to 323 active cases on Jan. 4, the worst point of the pandemic in Sarnia-Lambton. One week later, Sarnia’s hospital was “over full” and 20 senior homes and workplaces were struggling to contain outbreaks of the virus.
Since vaccinations began just over six months ago, 143,613 doses of vaccine have been given to residents via public health, hospitals, primary care and pharmacies.
As a result, 74.2% of adults and 19.3% of youth (aged 0-17) have received a first dose, and 54.4% of adults and 4.5% of youth are fully vaccinated.
