West Lambton Community Health Centre announces May health and wellness programs

Local residents can access free meditation, outdoor exercise, and nutritional support through a series of community-led wellness initiatives this May

The West Lambton Community Health Centre (WLCHC) has released its schedule for May, offering a variety of in-person and virtual programs designed to improve the physical and mental well-being of Sarnia-Lambton residents. These services prioritize local health accessibility and are offered free of charge, though some require advance registration.

Physical health and active living

With warmer weather arriving, the WLCHC is moving its low-impact exercise classes outdoors to Canatara Park. These one-hour sessions focus on cardio, bodyweight movements, and resistance training to support mobility and strength.

  • Low Impact Exercise: Wednesdays and Thursdays, 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Canatara Park (1200 Lake Chipican Dr.). Classes are cancelled in the event of rain or lightning.
  • Drum Fit: Wednesdays, 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Dunlop United Central Church. This program uses rhythmic movement and drumming to promote balance and wellness.

To register for exercise programs, residents should contact Rebecca at 519-344-3017 ext. 237.

Mental wellness and social connection

The health centre continues to offer spaces for mindfulness and social engagement to combat isolation and reduce stress. By providing these public forums, the WLCHC fosters the human connections essential for a flourishing community.

  • Meditation: Mondays, 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the West Lambton CHC (429 Exmouth St.). These sessions aim to boost self-esteem and improve focus.
  • Coffee Time: Fridays, 10:45 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. at the West Lambton CHC. A drop-in social hour with free coffee where everyone is welcome.
  • Future Plans and Difficult Conversations: May 11, 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. (Virtual). A wellness session dedicated to discussing long-term plans for oneself and loved ones. Register by calling Marianne at 519-344-3017 ext. 277.

Nutrition and food security

WLCHC is also addressing food security and kitchen literacy through hands-on programming and affordable produce options. These initiatives empower residents to navigate the local food system sustainably.

  • Men’s Cooking: May 12, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the West Lambton CHC. A relaxed environment for men to learn new recipes and build kitchen skills.
  • Garden Fresh Box: Residents can order fresh fruits and vegetables in person at the Exmouth St. location. Orders must be placed with cash by the first Friday of each month.
