Local health officials have resumed the surveillance program for West Nile virus.

Residents are encouraged to report all dead birds found in the Sarnia area to Lambton Public health.

In some cases, adult crows and blue jays may be collected by staff and tested for the virus, which is spread by the bite of infected mosquitoes.

Property owners can protect themselves from mosquito bites and the virus by removing sources of standing water and wearing an insect repellent containing DEET.

If you find a dead bird, report it by calling 519-383-3824 or online at www.lambtonhealth.on.ca.
